The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is a front-wheel-drive compact car that is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-L four-cylinder engine. This updated engine generates 158 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque on the road and pairs with either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission. As for the performance-oriented 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, this sporty compact car comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-L four-cylinder engine that delivers 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque on the road. The 2022 GLI is a front-wheel-drive vehicle that comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission but is also available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The speedy, performance-oriented GLI can accelerate from zero to 60 MPH in just 5.8 seconds.


Both the VW Jetta and the Jetta GLI received style refreshes for the 2022 model year. These two Jetta models received new grilles, updated front and rear bumpers, and new wheel designs for the 2022 model year. They are also available in three new metallic colors—Rising Blue, Kings Red, and Oryx White. On the inside, the Jetta and Jetta GLI now feature new upholstery options as well. 

The 2022 Jetta GLI is also now available with a new black appearance package that gives this sporty compact car a bolder look on the road. The interior of the 2022 Jetta GLI features a new leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever as well. 


The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI models come with a host of high-tech features in terms of both infotainment and safety. All 2022 Jetta and Jetta GLI models now come with a standard 8.0-inch fully digital gauge cluster. 

Both the Jetta and the Jetta GLI feature responsive touchscreen infotainment displays with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. All Jetta and Jetta GLI models also feature a standard mobile WiFi hotspot that is available with a subscription-based data plan. The 2022 Jetta’s top two trim levels come standard with wireless smartphone charging capabilities, and this feature is standard on all 2022 Jetta GLI models.

As for safety tech, the 2022 Jetta and Jetta GLI models come equipped with a variety of standard advanced safety and driver-assistance features. These standard features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology is available for the 2022 Jetta and is a standard feature for the 2022 Jetta GLI. 


The Volkswagen Jetta has always been renowned as an affordable compact car that has a much more upscale look and feels than its pricing would suggest. The Jetta is available in four different trim levels for 2022—the base S trim, the mid-tier Sport and SE trims, and the top-tier SEL trim. The exact prices for the 2022 VW Jetta have not yet been released. However, estimates suggest that the 2022 Jetta will be available with starting prices of about $20,000 for the S model, $24,000 for the Sport and SE models, and $27,000 for the SEL model.

As for the Volkswagen Jetta GLI, this performance-oriented compact car is only available in one trim level—and the exact price for this model for the 2022 model year has not yet been released. However, the estimated price for the 2022 Jetta GLI is $32,000. While this price makes the GLI markedly more expensive than the standard Jetta, many performance enthusiasts find the enhanced performance and sportier style of the Jetta GLI to be well worth its higher price.
